You need to create a PDF file using a PDF writer, or if you are running a recent software use the built in PDF facility. This will preserve vector data and give best possible line and font results. If you do not have a built in PDF output of the Acrobat suite then a free PDF writer can be downloaded here
Size: Your document should also be scaled correctly, for example an A1 poster should measure 841mm x 594mm @ 1:1 scale.
